Our ultimate goal is to understand the design principle of brain. In this project, we first focus on our core hypothesis that the allosteric nature of microtubule determines the shape of each single neuron. We already have supportive results and will extend our effort through close collaboration among several labs, each higly trained in specialized techniques. We first aim to clarify the basic design principles, namely how the microtubule conformational dynamics regulate neuronal morphogenesis. We will, then, deepen our understanding through manipulation of neuronal circuit both in vitro and in vivo.
